Which Site Can Make You More Money? HubPages or Factoidz?

HubPages and Factoidz are online writing sites. You can make money online on HubPages and Factoidz, but will HubPages make you the most money, or will Factoidz make you the most money?

This article is not about which online writing site has the best community, which site has the best support system, which site has better quality content, or which site is easier to use – it’s just about which online writing site can make you the most money.

I could answer the question quickly by telling you that HubPages and Factoidz won’t make you any money unless you put in some work, so neither site is the winner, but I’m assuming that you know money doesn’t just fall out of the sky, and that to make some money on HubPages or Factoidz, you already understand that you’d have to put in some work, and you also already understand that to get lots of people viewing your articles (which in turn can help you earn more) you have to write well, add articles to the sites fairly often, pay at least a little attention to Search Engine Optimization techniques, and link to your articles from other sites or even from your other articles on the same online writing site.

Let’s look at the different ways you can make money online with HubPages and Factoidz:

Both Factoidz and HubPages offer ad revenue share earning opportunities. Simply for having your articles on the sites, you can earn small amounts when your articles are viewed. How much you earn may also be based on the percentage of ad revenue a site shares with you, or on the amount or quality of your time spent on one or more features of the site, or on the popularity of the keywords in your article.

I currently have 40 articles on Factoidz, and 45 articles on HubPages. My ad revenue share earnings (passive income mostly earned just because people view my articles on the sites) for October 2011 were: Factoidz earnings: $1.38 (currently about R11.75) and HubPages earnings: $6.09 (currently about R50.90)

Although not everyone will earn the exact same amounts each month for having either 40 articles on Factoidz or 45 articles on HubPages (some people may earn a bit more each month; some people may earn a bit less each month) for me, regards monthly passive income earnings from the two sites, HubPages is the winner by far.

Note: Even if I do not add any new articles to these two online writing sites for a few months, I continue to earn passive income each month from the articles I already have on these two sites. It may not always be the exact same earnings amount each month, but I continue to earn from those articles each month.

Earnings for simply adding a new article
HubPages does not pay writers for simply adding a new article to the HubPages site, but Factoidz does. Earlier today I added my 41st article to Factoidz and earned $0.25 (currently about R2.13) simply for adding it. So for earnings for simply adding a new article to either Factoidz or HubPages, Factoidz is the winner.

If you are an Adsense publisher, being able to earn at least something from all or some of the Adsense ads on either Factoidz or HubPages (if the Adsense ads are clicked)
Factoidz: no opportunity
HubPages: yes, this opportunity exists

I am an Adsense publisher and I make use of the opportunity on HubPages, so for me, when it comes to Adsense, HubPages is the winner.

Affiliate program earning opportunities:
None on Factoidz. On HubPages writers who are Amazon or eBay affiliates, can display Amazon or eBay ads within their articles. Which site is the winner when it comes to affiliate program earning opportunities? HubPages

Being allowed by Factoidz or HubPages to publish the same articles on other sites too
HubPages does not allow previously published articles on their site, and HubPages writers also cannot republish their HubPages articles on other sites later, even if those other sites are their own sites. Factoidz writers also cannot publish previously published articles on Factoidz, but Factoidz does allow writers to republish their Factoidz articles on other sites too, 30 days after their articles were first published on Factoidz. Factoidz is the winner.

You may be asking “Where is the earning opportunity in being allowed to publish your articles on other sites too?”

If you republish your Factoidz articles on a site that sells usage-rights-only articles, people may buy your articles because they want to publish your articles on their own sites, even if your articles already appear elsewhere online. Having your usage rights only articles published on these buyers’ sites also means you are very likely to be allowed to leave a link at the bottom of your articles, in the author area, that leads to your own site or that leads to perhaps your profile on an online writing site.

Also if you republish your Factoidz articles on your own sites, as long as you don’t overdo it and you still also publish unique articles on your own sites (that don’t appear anywhere else online) it is not likely that Google will refuse to index your site or in general give your site poor search results for your other, unique, articles on your site. Being sure to use the same author name or pen name (using your real name at all times is easiest) beneath all your articles also helps with guaranteeing authenticity and ownership of your articles.

Having some of your Factoidz articles on your own sites too means that you only had to write an article once, but can then have it appearing in two places. It also means that for each article you republish on your own sites you have an extra page of content that visitors to your sites can navigate to (possibly by already being on your site for another reason and then following a link, or by following a link you’ve left on another site, or by having found the article in search results on a search engine) – each page of content you have on your sites give you more opportunity to earn – from Adsense or affiliate program ads, or from people being interested in services or products you offer on your sites.

Referral fee earning opportunities of Factoidz and HubPages

If you take the trouble to refer other people to join Factoidz or HubPages, it’s nice to be rewarded by these online writing sites for your efforts of helping them get another member.

Factoidz pays $10 if you referred somebody who joins the site after clicking your referral link, but only once they have published 20 articles.

HubPages has a referral trackers program that can be a little confusing trying to understand, and may also not be fast in earning you anything or much at all at first, for your efforts of referring new members, but over time your referral earnings can increase, meaning you continue to earn from some of the writers you referred to HubPages, so for referral earning opportunities, this makes HubPages the winner for me

Other ways to earn on Factoidz or HubPages

HubPages runs contests from time to time, with money prizes that can be as much as $50. Factoidz often has certain article requests that can earn you more than your other articles you write for Factoidz, but the earnings are not that high. Winner? For me, a tie.

Being able to include lots of links on your profile that lead to your own sites (and you may be monetiziing your own sites in several ways)

Remember this article is only all about earning money on the Factoidz and HubPages sites (or because of the sites), not anything else about the sites.

Understand how to use the sites, put in some effort, and make some money online.
