Photo of Me and my 6th Google Adsense cheque in South Africa
I’m South African and I’ve received my 6th Google Adsense cheque in South Africa! See the photo!
I have not posted a photo of me and one of my Google Adsense cheques anywhere online since posting a photo of me and my 3rd Google Adsense cheque, so thought it was time to do another one.
The photo of me and my 6th Google Adsense cheque received in South Africa, below, is not to boast. My Adsense earnings are not yet high, and I’m not yet getting an Adsense cheque every single month – I’m hoping to start receiving a monthly Adsense cheque here in South Africa in a month or two, and then of course to try increase the amount on that monthly Adsense cheque, so that’s great, but, right now, I’m not quite at that point yet, and it took me a long time before I reached the minimum R1 000 Google Adsense cheque payout threshold before I received my first Google Adsense cheque in my postbox at my physical address.
So, there’s no boasting involved, just an indication that it is possible for South Africans to make money with Google Adsense, and receive cheques in South Africa from Google Adsense.
There’s a bit more info about Adsense further below, but here’s the photo of me and my 6th Google Adsense cheque, received in South Africa.
Click the Adsense cheque photo to enlarge it for a closer look.
In the Adsense cheque photo above I’ve blacked out only my street address and the suburb in which I live in, in East London, South Africa. I’ve also blacked out the client number – not sure what that is, but I’ve blacked it out.
Everything else on the Google Adsense check is “as is” – the Adsense cheque is even still attached to the letter, exactly as it is was when I opened the envelope.
You can see a history of my monthly Adsense earnings,
on this site.

Wow, that is fantastic and congrats.
I just have a question. How long does take a South African bank to process that cheque?
Hi Ashley, thanks.
Well, I deposited this 6th Google Adsense cheque this month on a Tuesday, and it cleared, for me to draw the money, the next Wednesday (8 days later.) And that was with the Monday being a public holiday, so I guess usually about 7 days.
Take note, the moment a South African reaches Adsense earnings of R1 000 in any given month, that Adsense cheque is not posted immediately.
For example, if I reach R1 000 or more total Adsense earnings during the month of January, even if it’s only the 2nd or 3rd of January, it’s no use thinking “Oh boy, I’m going to get an Adsense cheque in the post really soon,” as that’s not how it works.
Whatever the amount is that I’ve earned by the last day of the example January (minimum R1 000) the Adsense cheque is only posted a month later, and here in South Africa would then arrive roughly one to three weeks into March.
Example:
1)
Reach Adsense earnings of R1 000 by 5th of January;
2)
Reach Adsense earnings of R1 200 by 31st of January;
3)
End of February a cheque for the amount of R1 200 is posted;
4)
Receive cheque somewhere between 7 and 21 March.
5)
Deposit cheque and can draw the cash 7 to 10 days later.
It seems long to wait after the excitement of reaching that R1 000, but you must remember that you can carry on earning from Adsense while waiting for that cheque – in other words, you start building up towards the next cheque.
Using the example above of having earned R1 200 by end of January and having received a R1 200 Google Adsense cheque by 21 March, from the beginning of February, you’re already earning towards the next cheque.
Thanks so much for the detailed reply. I have just built my first site and monetized with adsense, and after a month my earnings is up to R100.
I’m hoping to increase it to R1000 with some SEO work, and then I will probably build a few more sites targeting a US audience because the CPC’s are higher in the US compared to SA.
Thanks again for the response, at least I now know what to expect.

@Ashley
Your site is clean and neat and your Adsense ads are nicely placed. Well done. Good luck with it and the marketing and search engine optimization of it.
If your sites are going to have similar or slightly related content, remember to display links on them to each other.
Yes, if you write content targeting the US market or audience, it is most likely that mostly US related Adsense ads would appear on your site/s, when US residents land on your site. We here in SA usually see both SA and US related Adsense ads.
The problem with targeting the US market or audience is that although CPC’s might be higher, the US folk still have to get to your site/s first. There are many more sites targetting a US market or audience than there are sites targetting a South African market. You have to do a lot of SEO work and marketing to do better than your competitors. Also, many U.S. advertisers may have excluded South African sites from showing their ads, when they set up their advert on Adwords, especially if their target market is mostly U.S. residents. They may be thinking that while U.S. residents can still certainly visit South African sites, see and click any ads displayed there, they may not want to waste their advertising money on South African residents clicking those same ads simply out of curiosity, when their target market is NOT South Africans.
A lot of hard work more often than not really pays off, though, so work hard at it, and good luck.
Thanks for your kind words and advice. I’m long-term focused with the Adsense projects of mine(hard work certainly will pay off).
Will try and keep you updated with my progress.
Thanks again!

Hey Teresa,
Guess what… I cracked the R1000 mark and we haven’t even reached the end of the month. My site has earned over R1200 this month and I’m ecstatic. I’ve already started building another site and I expect to have 10 sites up and runnning (and earning) by the end of the year.
My next goal is $10k. Will let you know when I reach my goal!
Cheers,
Ashley

@ Ashley – congratulations! That’s wonderful news
At that pace your $10k goal is within reach – keep up the excellent work!
Hi. I joined Adsense end of last week to advertise on a blog I started. Does it take a few days before it appears your blog? Do they do review it first? Thanks
Hi Rolene
What kind of blogsite do you have? And have you inserted the code for the ads to appear?
When joining Google Adsense there will be some steps involved:
having your application accepted by Google Adsense;
if using a free Blogger blog, you type in your Adsense publisher number in the place provided (found in “monetize your site” section of your Blogger blog’s dashboard) and then you “add a gadget” to your “design page” selecting the Adsense gadget to go into it thereafter.
if using a site that has it’s own domain and hosting, you get the code for your ads within your Adsense account and copy and paste the code where you want the ads to appear – with a WordPress site (the type that is hosted and has it’s own domain, not a free wordpress.com one) you can copy and paste the code into a text widget.
Hope the info helps!
ps, within your Adsense account click the “help” usually found top right, and then click one of the helpful links on that page or use the search bar to search for any topic you’re interested in – tons of good tips and advice there, answering questions that other beginners have also asked.
Great, Keep up the good work.. anyway congratulations…
